First Blog

This is our first attempt at a Blog!  I am not a writer so beware!  We have started the year off with a bang.  Deb-b and I did our first WAVE hike and it was amazing.  Approximately 3 1/2 miles into the "bowl" and when it is cold and there is snow on the ground it makes it a little interesting.  The best time of the year to do the Wave, in my opinion is March - May or Oct - Dec.  A lot depends on the weather and conditions.  In the past you had two options to get one of the 20 person limit per day permits.  You could go on line www.blm.gov/az/st/en/arolrsmain/paria/coyote_buttes.html and enter the lottery to get one of the 10 daily permits.  You will have to go on line and apply 4 months in advance.  Example (Feb apply for June Permit).  It will cost you $5.00 to apply which is not refundable.  The other option is stop in at the BLM office in Kanab, UT before 9:00 am weekdays to enter the lotter for one of 10 permits for the next day.  This may go to a all on line permit process this year so keep checking on line to see what the status of permits are.  If you get to go it is a hike of a lifetime with great scenery all the way.  Be prepared, it is remote and you have to bring plenty of water for the trip.  For more information about the Wave you can visit the above link or a good information site is www.thewave.info/.  Good luck and be safe!
